Computer Aided Design

CAD-2-FAB offers CAD modeling and engineering design services using SolidWorks and Fusion 360. We handle the full design workflow from initial concept sketches through detailed production-ready models. This includes creating parametric 3D models that can be easily modified as designs evolve, generating 2D drawings with proper dimensioning and tolerancing for manufacturing, and developing assemblies that show how components fit and function together. Our design work spans mechanical components, fixtures and tooling, product enclosures, and various custom parts that clients need modeled or refined.

The design for manufacturing aspect is where our machining experience becomes particularly useful. We review designs for practical production considerations—identifying features that might drive up costs unnecessarily, suggesting modifications that maintain function while improving machinability, and ensuring tolerances are appropriate for the intended manufacturing method. This might mean adjusting wall thicknesses for better tool access, eliminating undercuts where possible, or modifying radii to match standard tooling. We've seen enough parts go from screen to spindle to know what works smoothly and what creates headaches on the shop floor.
